Twin Valley to Complete Upgrade to Streaming TV App in October
More than 30 million in US have cut the cord and switched to streaming services
Twin Valley will upgrade its current TV offering to Streaming TV service on October 5, 2021. The company announced its plans at the beginning of 2020 and have been in communication with customers for more than a year. The local broadband, telephone, and TV company joins providers across the country that are pivoting amid a highly competitive TV landscape in an effort to support customers, meet the demand for a feature-rich TV watching experience, and offer a sustainable service.
“The future of TV is in streaming, and the investments we are making align with a massive shift in consumer demand for a more flexible, personalized experience. Our transition to this service introduces modern features while eliminating the need for bulky set-top boxes and the recurring monthly expense associated with them. Ultimately, this can lead to monthly cost-savings,” Twin Valley COO Scott Leitzel said. “We are committed to serving our rural neighbors, and switching to our new streaming app provides a full-featured TV option backed by something you can’t get from a national provider – our hometown customer care.”
According to eMarketer, more than 30 million American households have dropped their cable or satellite service in favor of one or multiple streaming apps. The research firm estimates that number will rise to more than 46 million by 2024. Regionally, Twin Valley has seen a consistent loss of TV subscribers in recent years, mirroring the national trends.
At the same time, providers are struggling to offer TV service at an affordable rate. Programming fees continue to increase year over year. Since 2007, the fees that Twin Valley pays to channel providers has risen by 520% in some cases. For the most in-demand content, there are double-digit increases nearly every year, and Twin Valley has absorbed much of those costs to keep rates competitive.
Twin Valley’s new streaming TV app creates a quality, personalized experience for customers, with more than 200 HD channels, local weather and news, the ability to pause and rewind live TV, a library of recent shows, and cloud DVR. The DVR feature allows users to record shows without a set-top box and access recordings from multiple devices. The app also offers personalized show recommendations and parental controls.
“We’ve allowed our customers to transition on their timetable for over a year to ensure they can make the change to the new streaming TV when it makes sense for them. Most customers have successfully made the transition, and a relatively small number remain. It’s important that those remaining customers understand if they don’t make the switch before October 5, they will lose TV service on that day.”
The app can be downloaded onto any streaming device, such as a smart TV, a streaming stick or box, or a handheld device like a mobile phone or tablet. Some older devices are not compatible with the app’s new features, the Twin Valley customer service team cautions. For the best experience, an Amazon Fire TV Stick is recommended. The device is easy to use, affordable, and plugs into the TV’s HDMI port. It can be purchased through Twin Valley for $40 or through other local and online retailers. And because a cable is no longer required for service, customers have more flexibility in where to place TVs in their homes.
“We know that some of our customers are less familiar with streaming devices and apps. Our customer service and technical teams are trained to assist with the transition,” Leitzel said. “For those who have already made the switch, we’ve had a positive response.”
